According to ancient Hindu scriptures , Lord Somraj (moon), was married to 27 daughters of Prajapati Daksh. But in all his wives he used to give the most love and respect to the wife named “Rohini”. Seeing this injustice being done to the rest of the daughters, Prajapati Daksh cursed Lord Somraj (moon), saying that from now on you will lose your brightness every day from now on. As a result of this curse, every other day, the brightness of Chandra Deva started decreasing. Diverting from curse, Chandra Deva started worshiping Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was pleased with the worship of Chandra Deva and redressed the curse of Chandra Deva. It is said that after the suffering of Chandra, he had established Lord Shiva here, and since then here the name of Virjit Lord Shiva, Bhole Bhandari is named Somnath.
